My prayer was answered the next morning

The Next Step

Leaving behind a solid, reliable income brings uncertainty and doubt. At least that is how Tyson and I felt. But we were certain the next step for me as a creative was to branch out on my own as a self-employed designer.

Portfolio

I had put a lot of time into designing the perfect portfolio booklet that I would soon distribute to different local businesses I would love to team up with. The portfolio turned out beautiful and was loaded with the best of my work that I am the most proud of. I printed 15 copies to start with and I was going to cherry-pick my favorite local organizations that I would love to team up with.

Once the portfolio was ready to send off, I was gearing up for leaving my job.

The month of May

I timed my resignation to be June 1 once some large projects at work were complete. May brought opportunities. Almost too many! I sent out one single portfolio and the rest are sitting on a shelf unused because the opportunities came pouring in one after the other.

As June 1 was approaching, I prayed for one retainer client. And the next morning, I had an unexpected email in my inbox from a client requesting a retainer package. And then four more clients followed shortly in the days to come.

I’m sure these pretty portfolios will come in handy in the future. I am grateful that this next step for me solidified on its own without me having to put the effort forward. What an exciting transition!
